My step second cousin, which counts as kin in Louisiana, is a talented writer who has again published a beautiful book, "Constance: Delicate Burdens." His name is Patrick Strange. Patrick is the associate editor for Filter Magazine. Previously, Patrick served as associate editor and columnist for the New Orleans monthly magazine Antigravity, and also co-wrote the 2006 play Catching Him in Pieces, which was nominated by Gambit Weekly for Best Original Work for Theater. Patrick’s work has appeared in various publications, including Antigravity, Baltimore City Paper, Filter, Flaunt, Gambit Weekly, and Relix.
Constance is an art and literature publication that explores the fragmentary life that is New Orleans. Publishing various forms of visual art and creative writing, including photography, painting, illustration, drawing, collage, print making, graffiti, graphic design, poetry, fiction, nonfiction and creative nonfiction, Constance offers a fresh interpretation of a city that is in immense, and often times, overwhelming cultural and social flux. Constance aims to not only make sense of the fissured New Orleans identity, but to discover the creative and experimental possibilities of the present historical moment.

EXCERPTS from INTRODUCTION written by PATRICK
"...to further the understanding of what it means to make New Orleans home through the work of those who know it best...
While the first installment, Replicas and Replacements, hinted at the potentiality felt immediately following Katrina, Delicate Burdens comes to the difficult realization that any rebirth will be long-labored and complicated one. The phoenix that arises from the ashes is a thing of myth, and sadly, so is the notion that New Orleans and the central Gulf Coast will rebuilt quickly by people who always have the good of the citizens in mind. From this deep and often murky well of shared grief and anxiety, we've drawn the impetus for Delicate Burdens..."

Thank you for sharing this, Karen. I tend to know New Orleans through its contemporary glass-makers, but have no overall view of the city's modern art and writing from this distance.
I think I'd enjoy a view.
Where can we get a copy?
While the book can be found in bookstores in New Orleans and Los Angeles, it can also be bought online at http://www.weareconstance.org/delicate/index.html
thanks for asking Summy.
